Favorite Foods – Best Whoopie Pie

Yup, it’s a thing. In our sorta-recurring segment on the favorite foods from our travels, we check out a delicious, gooey, chocolatey treat that brings back great memories – the Whoopee Pie.

Deep in the heart of old Central Florida, just off of Route 40, is a nostalgic throwback. A place that’s worth a visit for anyone cruising through the area. Sweet Jane’s Candy Store is just east of Silver Springs, kind of right smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Stepping inside the quaint little shop is a delightful journey through time.

The little shop is jam-packed with nostalgic candies form years gone by. There are lots of other goodies within the walls including homemade ice cream, chocolates, baked items and edible insects! But the primary reasons for visiting are the delicious homemade Whoopie Pies.

The owner of the shop is a Maine escapee, who has developed a dozen different Whoopie Pie recipes which she sells regularly. In case you were unaware, the Whoopie Pie is Maine’s Official State Treat.

Jackie tried the original and I went for the Snickerdoodle. Both were delicious.

Check out our quick video for some more insight and a peek inside the store. And, next time you cross The Sunshine State, make sure you work in a visit to Sweet Janes in Silver Springs.
